Mark, formerly an attorney with Shepstone & Wylie, was a property financier and manager at Investec and its associate, Integro, in Amsterdam. Joining the chairman of Remgro, Richemont & Rothmans as his assistant, Mark was exposed to corporate finance, strategy, and private equity. He subsequently headed up VenFin’s new investment evaluation team where he handled the re-financing of Dimension Data. Mark went on to lead the turnaround of one of VenFin’s underperforming JSE-listed investments, Intervid, as the group CEO.
Intrigued by entrepreneurship, Mark established a corporate finance, private equity and strategy consultancy, eventually developing the first aquarium in Turkey which he sold to the largest aquarium owner in the world, and helping list and expand Paragon Entertainment in the UK, of which he is currently non-executive chairman. He is also the independent investment advisor to Agri-Vie, an Africa-focused private equity fund.
Mark is Managing Director of Capricorn Capital, a newly-established South African corporate advisor.
Mark has over 25 years’ corporate finance (M&A and restructuring) and capital raising experience across a wide variety of sectors. Prior to this, Mark was: an independent investment banker in Southern Africa for 8 years; Head of Investment Banking and Head of Wealth Management at Merrill Lynch (South Africa); Executive Director at UBS (London); Director:Listings of the JSE; Manager:Corporate and International Finance at Anglo American Corporation; and an Assistant Solicitor at Linklaters (London). Mark graduated in law at Stellenbosch and Cambridge Universities.
Previously a Director at RBS Australia, Cyrus played a leading role in RBS’ capital resolution team responsible for RBS Australia’s exit from Asia Pacific. This involved managing all aspects of the various loan portfolio sales with a total deal value > $5bn.
Prior to that, Cyrus was the lead transactor in the Australian Restructuring Group with full responsibility (structuring, negotiation, documentation and exit) for a portfolio of positions across large corporations and the mid-market.
Cyrus was a board member of a Chinese investment fund and a board observer at MediaWorks, he has also held senior positions at ABN AMRO and ANZ.
